Pictorial Apache Olla. A very fine pictorial basket with human figures, swastikas, horses, and chickens. Bold lines and bands. 14 1/2" tall , 11 1/2" shoulders, 10" across the top edge.
Note inside basket from Richard states this was obtained from Rev. Francis J. Uplegger.
Mr. Uplegger was the first resident missionary with the Apaches, establishing his mission in Rice, predecessor of San Carlos, in 1919. For 45 years he taught religion and languages to the Apaches on the reservation. The Indians taught him their language, too.
